Capillary break solution using EnkaBreak, in case of high ground water level coupled with embankment height > 2m
Civil Engineering
Geosynthetic capillary break layers are used to replace the more traditional sandy gravel or gravel capillary break layers in embankment bases and pavement structures
EnkaBreak is a geocomposite that can be applied as horizontal capillary breaker under infrastructural embankments, parking areas or any pavements located in areas with high groundwater conditions. It is installed just above the highest level of the water table ensuring the capillary void is never totally saturated by groundwater.
EnkaBreak provides an effective horizontal capillary barrier by creating a continuous spacing layer which prevents moisture to rise.
Based on several academic resources it can be stated that the most effective capillary break method is by creating a durable spacer between the saturated subsoil and the embankment structure.
EnkaBreak replaces expensive thick granular layers and so reduces the amount of excavation and required new raw materials. The use of EnkaBreak will result in less construction time, lower maintenance intervals and an improved expected lifespan of the project. EnkaBreak additionally contributes to lowering CO2 emissions.
