Effective drainage key to good results

When the Netherlands town of Ede began to run out of parking space, a plan was developed to reconstruct the central market square. It would provide for a new underground parking lot, while giving the square above a face lift. However, the new look would be spoiled if inadequate drainage caused puddles in the square. The additional weight created by the permanent presence of water would also be a problem.

Enkadrain diverts rainwater, even under pressure

A layer of Enkadrain (5004C/5-2s/T110PP) was fitted under the pavement of the parking deck. This would divert any rainwater that penetrated the upper layer to a central drainage point. Enkadrain also has the advantage of being extremely resistant to pressure from high top loads – a benefit for the car park’s construction. Even at 20 tons per m2 it still achieves impressive water drainage.

The large size of the Enkadrain rolls made for a speedy installation. It was easily rolled out over the parking deck, with the overlaps in the correct place. The drain was installed directly onto the sub- and adjacent structure. The result was highly effective drainage, a quick build, and a pristine market square.
